Welcome !
I am a teacher, a science teacher, but I did not start as one.
You may guess from the site that I have a love of sailing. In fact all the images here I took myself over the years on the various tall ships I have lived and worked on. I call myself a sailor at heart and teacher during the day. One of the greatest joys is being able to share all I have learned from tall ships with my students.
In the science classroom I enjoy teaching Biology as well as other Life Sciences electives. My favorite time of the year is dissection week. While the main focus might be to learn parts of the body and their functions I am always amazed at how an exercise in dissection really teaches life skills and confidence. I am also fond of taking students out to observe the stars and enjoy teaching Astronomy when I can.
Outside of the classroom I am an athletic coach. I grew up playing sports and played NCAA Women's Lacrosse in college. I currently coach all three seasons - its hard to kick me out of the gym, or the field, or the pool. In the fall you'll find me with the high school volleyball girls jealous of their natural height and always ragging that a short old women can still beat them (if they don't practice). In the winter I enjoy my time with the 7th grade volleyball team. Each years its a fresh group of girls who have never played before and its amazing to watch them grow. In the spring you'll find me out in the mud with the young girls lacrosse team. I love playing sports almost as much as instilling that love and drive in others.
When not at school I have a small dachshund puppy named Frankie who keeps me on my toes and I find every spare moment to I can to go sailing.
I hope you enjoy this portfolio, it has been a journey in the making.
Sincerely,
Carolyn
